🗽We’re a social group for ex New Yorkers in LA 🌴

NYC in LA started in 2020 as a tiny WhatsApp group. Just a few ex-New Yorkers trying to find their tribe in a sea of Angelenos.

The good word got around, and we’ve grown to 1,500+ strong.

We host gatherings every month across LA, from pizza and bagel tastings (we know, we know) to pickleball nights (so LA, we’re aware), women’s events, Friday coffee hours and neighborhood hangs for those who aren’t going near the 405 at rush hour.

The NYT even called us “a popular, dynamic subculture.” Anyway…they’re not wrong? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Our events are made brighter by the people behind the scenes, as NYC in LA is an entirely volunteer-run community.

  • There’s usually something happening every week — from casual drop-ins to curated gatherings — plus larger seasonal events. We recently launched a monthly happy hour and a weekly Friday Coffee Hour. You can follow our events on WhatsApp, IG and email.

  • Yes — thoughtfully. The culture works because members invite people who add to the vibe. If you’d want to have a long dinner conversation with them, they’ll probably fit.

  • Some events are free, some ticketed depending on venue and format. We keep pricing simple and transparent — you’re paying for the experience, not access to people.

  • We’re a growing community of former New Yorkers living in Los Angeles.  We bring together people who share a love for New York’s culture—conversation, creativity, ambition, humor, and intellectual energy—while building real relationships in LA. We host curated gatherings that blend culture, ideas, and fun: dinners, salons, comedy nights, live music, and thoughtful conversations.

    Most members are in their mid-20s to 40s across creative, tech, media, healthcare, and entrepreneurial fields.

    We exist because cities can reset your identity and social life. NYC in LA exists to make it easier to build meaningful friendships in a big, spread-out city. We’re an antidote to superficial networking and algorithm-driven socializing.
